Segway racing MotoCzysz wins the final US e-race of 2011
2011-09-07
Team Segway racing MotoCzysz decisively won the final round of the TTXGP, crossing the finish line 30 seconds ahead of the entire field. Local racer Shane Turpin was at the controls and this was the first time he had ever experienced an electric Grand Prix machine. “The bike was extremely compact, similar to a 250GP bike but with batteries – Unbelievable! It handled extremely well and the power was unreal! I had no idea that it would be that fast!”- Shane Turpin
The 011- E1pc electric motorcycle turned lap times faster than every 600cc motorcycle racing that weekend and on average turned lap times within one to two seconds of those race times from the leading 1,000cc machines. Surprising to most was that the electric MotoCzysz accelerated as fast and achieved the same top speed as the fastest Suzuki GSXR 1000s and Yamaha R1s.
Ironically, Shane Turpin originally tested the MotoCzysz C1, MotoGP prototype, afterwards stating “It’s electric”, referring to the smoothness and immediacy of the torque delivery of the original internal combustion engine. One of the priorities for the C1 project was to create a very smooth and linear torque curve, similar to those generated by electric motors- now the MotoCzysz really is electric.
