Not another chopper show!

Discovery Channel airs Birth of a Racer, a MotoCzysz Documentary

For the last two years, Michael Czysz and the MotoCzysz team have been followed and filmed by a production crew from the Discovery Channel. The two hour documentary, Birth of a Racer, is the first HD documentary to be released by Discovery world wide and will be available to over 600 million viewers. The film shows the accomplishments and failures experienced by the MotoCzysz team while trying to bring an American designed and built machine back to the forefront of international road racing.

The process of fabricating American motorcycles is well known to the reality television audience who have watched Orange County Choppers, Build or Bust, or Southern Steel. While each build seems to stretch the ability of the shop, the men, and the clock – these bikes are not exactly new technology or forward thinking exercises, they have however created some interesting motorcycles and great TV moments.  In contrast, the MotoCzysz documentary (with arguably fewer great TV moments) will quickly show the viewers the true effort it takes to conceive, design, engineer and build a clean sheet motorcycle and more importantly a clean sheet engine. The C1 also has a unique frame, industry first suspension, state of the art comprehensive electronics, and over 1,000 custom parts that cannot be purchased out of a catalog.

The documentary will begin airing this week with the date for the United States yet to be determined.

  2. Tim says:

Just saw it in Seoul, Korea. Makes my FJR look like a boat at only 156HP and an astonishing 650 lbs. I would love to be at the track to see, hear and smell the gas fumes…..man, what a rush!

  3. Des Aubery says:

Just caught the program from Bangkok, Thailand.

As an engineer/researcher also running close to the bleeding edge, I would like to congratulate you & your amazing team. You folks went to hell & back – & are on your way to re-creating the future. Your pain was clearly conveyed in the program.

Seeing creation & vision in action, brought tears to my eyes. Awesome stuff folks.

You are heroes & paradigm-breakers in every sense of the word. Success for 2008 & a bright future.

    DesA

Just watched the story on Discovery Channel …Amazing!!

I’m not a great fan of MotoGP, but after watching the story, I started to learn more especially on the C1. Great team effort and what a courage you guys got there to stand up among the big and deep pocket factory sponsored team.

Keep it up guys, and wish you luck!

    Hi Guys,

Just watched the documentary. Respect to Michael and his team ! Sure hope to see you guys on the grid in the future.

I wish you the best of luck !

    greetings from The Netherlands.

  6. Sjouke Dijkstra says:

I also “stumbled” on to the documentary, and was very impressed by the whole project.
I allready was somewhat aquainted with it, because one of the dutch magazines had a feature on it.

It does remind me a bit of the project of the late John Britten, who also started developing a race bike from a blank piece of paper and was quite succesfull. I saw this Britten V1000 race once in Assen, absolutely demoting the all conquering Ducati’s of that time. So John Britten proved it’s possible.

    Good luck with the project,

  7. Gert says:

I just watched the documentary. My respect to the team to build a bike from the ground up

    My best wishes for 2008

    greeting from belgium

  8. Aidz from the Philippines says:

I saw the documentary yesterday evening and I was so inspired on how Michael and the team worked 24/7 on the project. Literally, they were working with their blood, sweat and tears in making this impossible dream possible. I am truly amazed on the vigilance of the team! Kudos!!

As they say here in our country, “Kung ayaw, maraming dahilan. Kung gusto, maraming paraan” which means “If you don’t want it, there are many excuses. But if you want it, there are many ways of getting it.”

Keep it up Team Moto Czysz!! Hoping for the best!!

  10. Koos Pol says:

Saw the show last night. Incredible story. What man can achieve if he really wants to. All the best to Michael and his crew. What a guy, what a crew, what a bike…

  11. Angel says:

Just saw the show here in Australia,I felt absolutely like a child on Christmas morning.Unfortunately I missed one Moto gp race this year and it was Laguna Seca.So did you guys race? how did you do?I know you still had a lot of things to sort out but I am sure by now that you’ve had a lot more support and even sponsorship come your way.I can not wait to see that engine config start to come out on road bikes that will be lighter and faster than the current crop of Jap bikes. Please don’t let the Japs beat you to it.You could fund your racing project by selling road going versions, think about it anyhow keep up the good work and Forza Italia.Ciao Angelo

  12. Jim Bokhove says:

Wow i saw your program yesterday here on Dutch television. I really loved the way it was build of from a dream upto this great bike!

    Will be watching your progress……

  14. Joe Bond says:

Well done, the show that I saw last night on TV in New Zeland was truly inspiring. When we think to complain about things in our life and how they might not be going our way we should all go take a look in the mirror. Your resolve is harder than any carbon fibre part!

I will be keeping a close eye on your site and hope to hear more from you and your team!!

    see you at Moto GP

    Joe

  15. Arthur says:

Hi, I find it an Incredible achievement what you guys did in such little time! I saw the show yesterday on Discovery and immediately needed to see the site. Very inspiring to see how you where able to succeed after the many disappointments you’ve had. Though I still have two ask two importent questions. When do you start racing in the Moto GP series and do you still have two bikes running? I wish you guys luck.

    Regards from Holland

    Arthur.

  16. Manuel Zamora says:

    Hello there.

I’ve been watching the documentary (finished one minute ago!!) and I’ve found it really interesting. It’s been a few years since I read the first reviews in the specialized magazines and, honestly, I thought you would have run out of money to keep it rolling.
I hope all the best for your project and wish you the best luck, because I really think your idea deserves a real opportunity.

    Cheers up!!!

  17. reins says:

  20. Stephen says:

Hello all, saw the doco here in Australia last night and loved it!!!! You guys from all parts of the globe have done a brilliant job in such a short time. Compared with the budgets of Ducati and Honda, you are working with peanuts, but are producing gold. Only wish I could afford to invest in such a fantastic project, but will have contribute by buying some of your merchandise instead (every little bit helps). Everyone else out there should at least buy a hat or a shirt, and show what you really think of this team.

  21. mark whisker says:

  29. scybur says:

I saw the show last week and I was impressed!

I really admire the persistency of all of you and the unique look on bike engineering. It was great to see all bits falling at its place, even though that meant trial and error. That will only make the end result more satisfying, I bet. In this short ammount of time the team created a phenomenon with the best looks and promising skills. I hope that in the near furture when I turn on the MotoGP I will see a whole new racing team by MotoZysz. Perhaps not a podium at first but gently making your way to victory soon. Scouting is than another aspect which will get involved. I hope you pick the right rider suited for the job, one who can identify problems and ways to improve like Valentino Rossi. Who has a charisma like Loris Capirossi and Casey Stoner and the competitive character as you would find with Dani Pedrosa. Rain specialists are also more than welcome, since, as rider, you need to perform allround. I can’t even begin to think what a miracle you will be creating in the future, when you’ve got more sponsorship and reference material. I wish the team all the best, especially for this new year: 2008.

  30. Aseb says:

  31. Angel Again says:

Could you please put more up to date material and Photo’s on your site? I really would like to know about development of the 800.We have reached 2008 will we see the 800 at Laguna this year? Cool all the best Angel

  32. Shaun Jonkman says:

Michael, I watched the show in South Africa and having recently taken over a team which believes they cannot succed I have decided to show them the programme as an inspirational piece on what can be achieved when someone has vision and sticks to the goal irrespective of the challenges and disappointsments.

All the best for the future and I would like to see KC Stoner win on the C1.

  33. BD@MotoCzysz says:

Thanks again for all the support! We appreciate your comments. We will update you all with our current progress shortly.

    Thanks,

  34. Gary says:

2 Questions for the update if possible:

    1. Any word on US release date?
    2. Will there be an 800 cc version for Moto-GP? I was under the impression, form everything I’ve heard, that it would be a 1000 cc and ineligible. Those who have seen the documentary seem to have more info. than me. Please clarify when possible.

    Thanks!

  35. Brett Fitzgerald says:

    Man O Man.

What a show. Loved the very high percentage of “Murphy’s Law” and how the team overcame the near impossible.
Not so much of a bike freak, but have been only interested in MotoGP and the like in the last 1-2 years.
But I am very accustomed to the real power, as I am a Diesel Mechanic.

This show “Birth of a Racer”, showed the true emotions of failure at it’s deepest and shows the real human aspect on how to deal with harsh deadlines, making the impossible, possible.

Had the same effect on me as the the Ken Carter story “Devil at your heels”(The Man who jumped the ST Lawrence Seaway in a Jet Powered Car) back in the late 70’s-early 80’s and how he took over 5 years to overcome such a simple idea. Failure after failure, short of money, bad weather, investor deadlines and a ridculous idea plagued his dream.
Though he overcome his failures to actually jump the seaway, he killed himself in the event.

This is an awesome story for a new genre of racing bikes.
