In less than 24 hours I leave to go to the biggest race of my life, not because it is the largest, not because it is the fastest but because it will be the first time a MotoCzysz motorcycle will compete in an FIM sanctioned event.
In less than five months we took a suggestion and turned it into a motorcycle. A motorcycle that is unlike anything I have ever ridden. No gas, no oil, no clutch, no need to even warm up the engine- no engine. Gone is the age old ritual of rhythmical throttle blips that can audible seduce a motorcyclist into a pre ride trance- now your bike waits for you. Enter what may be the next big thing in motorcycles; invisible, nearly silent and magically linear power.
June 12, 2009, on the Isle of Man, will be the worlds first zero emissions (electric) Grand Prix, the TTXGP. With teams from around the world ascending on the Isle, this is a true international competition and even though the machines are futuristic the race is not and the premise even less so- this is an old fashion ‘run what you brung’ race. Never would my Grand Father or even my Father imagined such a motorcycle would ever exist, even I would have doubted this event possible in 2009 only a few years ago.
MotoCzysz will be on the Island Friday, tech the E1pc ‘D1g1tal Superbike’ on Saturday, practice Monday, Wednesday and Friday- Mark Miller will ride a race my father and I (and I hope my sons too) will never forget- a race that will forever be MotoCzysz’s first and a race that may be the worlds first view of ‘next generation’ motorcycles.
I hope we do not disappoint-
MC
To be issued a trade carnet (passport for racing vehicles to move freely across country lines) a serial number is stamped on the vehicle for identification along with the country of origin. No where else is there a better example of ‘old meets new’. MC commemorated the bike with the race and reason it was built, the Isle of Man, June, 12 2009- there is only 1- and it is proudly made in the America.
MC you have given the words (There is always a way) new meaning to me.
To watch the C1 come alive and the people who rode the C1 like the feel of the whole bike and then hit the money wall and rule changes.
You went Electric.
A new start, a new bike, you have already won.
Because you are still working on two wheels and never stopped.
Michael you and your team have, once again, pulled off what most would’ve thought impossible. While this race is certainly going to be one for the history books, those very same history books already have plenty of MotoCzysz wins to cover! You have MUCH to be proud of.
That said, I wish you and the team nothing but success at IOM! Show ‘em just what “MCE1-IOM61209-0001″ REALLY means!
GO MOTOCZYSZ!
MCE1-IOM61209-0001= KICK ASS AT THE ISLAND
That thing is bad ass, and you guys are going to be the rock stars of this event!!!
When it is all over, everyone is going to want one!!!
Great job you guys. I know Everyone put some long hours into this (Michael, Loni, Adrian, Josh, Marty….). I’m glad it all pulled together so you could make the race.
Its amazing what you all did in 5 months of development.
Can’t wait to see that thing at PIR when you guys get back.
Five months from “hey we should do this” to a top contending machine – that is nothing short of amazing.
Congrats Michael,
Once again you have inspired your team to set everything aside and meet an unlikely deadline(I know the long nights it must of taken). I wish you the all the best of luck at IOM. The future of MOTOCZYSZ is yet to be written, but the foundation is solidifying nicely.
Thank you for putting USA on the Isle!
Troy
I only wish I would be able to experience this historic race in person. I will (barely) settle for news coverage and web video. Regardless of the outcome of the race, your forefathers would be proud.
Congratulations MIchael and the entire team! The bike is not only a work of art, you are redefining the meaning of alternative fuel when mixed with technology. No matter hard steep the road or difficult the mission, please, do not give up. You have many, many fans.
What you have accomplished in such a short time is, well, quite certainly unbelievable. You have much to be proud of.
Thank you for taking the United States to the IOM.
Good luck and Godspeed.
Pete
Way to go and best of luck! Bring back some pride to US engineering while you are over there. This is the direction transportation needs to be taking! A tip of the hat to you for putting your time, money, and energy into making this motorcycle.
MC should challenge the Mission Motor’s bike to a 1v1 race … now that would be entertaining. In any case, it’s a win for everyone.
Congratulations and best of luck. Really incredible!

Congrats Michael and team! Looking forward to seeing a great video!
Good luck – enjoy the Isle – it’s a magical place.

HOLY S—!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great work MotoCzysz team. That bike looks ’sick’, better than I imagined. Now get out there and show them how America does it!!!!!!! Good luck of the race and I hope..no wait…I know you will win!
Truly Inspirational.. just watched the “the borth of racer” last night with my wife to remind myself why i have you bookmarked since the site’s launch.. Good Luck – YOU HAVE ALREADY DONE AMERICA AND YOUR FANS PROUD!
Innovation can never run dry……….ever.
Hope to see you in superbike school @ laguna. However, I’m sure this is now unlikely.
Hello Michael and Team!
It was an honor to meet you Michael at PIR’s first track day of the season a few months ago. I was there with my father who bumped into you several days later while you were looking for some tools.
Anyway, we wish you the best of luck for your upcoming TT. I’m just sorry we cannot be there to cheer you on.
Well thanks so much for taking such a revolutionary concept to reality. You are making history and representing America with a bike that is sure to be marveled at for years to come.
I hope to see you again at PIR.
Take care,
Erik and Michael Shunn

Godspeed Michael!
Fantastic work by your team.
Like someone else said here about the 990 and the rule changes in the FIM,
and all the struggles. Your hard work WILL pay off!
Wow you guys. What a gorgeous machine. You never cease to amaze. I’m completely impressed with your ability to overcome obstacles, remain cutting edge, and offer good looks on top of it all. I wish you guys luck and success over there.
Team Motoczysz,
Best of luck to you at the TT! I was recently mentioning to people that there wasn’t a race circuit out there for electric vehicles to participate in. Racing drives technology advancement and if electric vehicles are the future we’d better start racing them now. Several days ago my friend forwarded me a link about your electric race bike. I was amazed by the style, the technology, and that IOM was forward-thinking enough to sanction a race. What further shocked me is that Motoczysz is based out of my home town, Portland. Wow! I’m sold… I’m a fan, where do I get the t-shirt and hopefully an affordable street legal version of your electric sports bike?
I wish you guys the best and please keep the blog posts coming. I’ve been reading the IOM Blog looking for references and I haven’t heard about how practice is going for Team Motoczysz.
I’ve been following this like most of you for years. How is it that John Britten can build a winning, history making bike in his garage and Czysz has been working on this for years and still doesn’t have a finished bike? I’m beginning to smell something fishy here? Why is it that he or anyone of his staff “NEVER” reply to ppl’s posts? Why is it that the video’s are always sooooooooooo lacking in information and content. They are purposely made teaser clips. Why has he not responded to anything about their IOMTT race what so ever? No decent company would provide such an incredible lack of followup with the people who could actually be its customers as this company. IMHO and its just mine but this is the new Vector or Delorean company or maybe a Tucker on its last leg. Wake up, see this for what it is! I saw posts where after the dyno run ppl asked what were the HP equivalent figures and no reply was ever given. Months go by and there is only ridiculous minute posts by M.C.
Hello Russ.
Just returned from the IOM less than 24 hr ago and have posted about our race experience to the blog, I hope it answers most of your questions.
There is a great book on John Britten by Tim Hanna you may want to read, I think it is very insightful. In the end you may find the projects are even less similar than you think. Regardless, what John accomplished was the inspiration for the MotoCzysz project. One of John’s accomplishments was to build a race bike that competed at the IOM which we accomplished last week. Johns bike were in development for over 10 years by the time they got to Daytona so I will still push forward.
We have had over 10 million hits to the MotoCzysz website and I have received thousands of emails it would be a full time job to reply to all so I post to the blog as I can. Sorry you feel the posts are ridiculous and minute but MotoCzysz does not have an advertising agency or a PR firm or even a marketing department. I doubt John Britten did either…
In reference to the HP figures- Have you ever seen ANY manufacture release real HP numbers on their race bikes?
Maybe this is wrong for me to say but the Tucker seemed like an honest effort to build a better car. I can tell you projects like this are harder than they look and are full of pitfalls. Certainly if the founder was aware of all that would go wrong they would never start, but starting and failing is still more honorable than never starting.

The TRUE test of a great concept is to make it work , try ,try , and try again , all the while learning ! …………. Bset of Luck !
Hey! Want one of these!
I sell my GSX-R, withdraw petty cash from my piggybank – would it be enough?
Well, said Michael, I love the personal quote. If I had some mega bucks like you I’d get into the eSBK biz. For now all I can do is dream and create in 3DS Max and Illustrator. Thank you replying to my posts. I believe you have replied to me 4 times in the last 3 years. That to me is astounding considering I got a personal message form the CEO/Owner himself. I will always remeber that Michael. It tells me a lot about your character. I hope you, your wife, father and boys can one day soon cut the ribbon on the first Czysz factory in the U.S.A.!
For all those in disagreance with him, remember this; he has catually done it! You have not even attempted such a huge undertaking. At least we have an AMERICAN MOTORCYCLE COMPANY to be proud of! I may not be riding an E1 now but I have the upmost faith that one day I will. Although not a part of the team I feel like I am a part of them. Artistic people who dream and have a hunger to create all have the sense of togetherness and belonging. Keep going Michael, you’re almost at the top of that big hill you’ve been climbing so long. I still beleive in you!
- Isaac
that is czyszalating!
watched the documentary last night and was amazed at what you achived on a comparative shoestring compared to the major GP teams , totally amazing stuff .
Then I seen the electric superbike , I nearly swallowed my tongue ! I build racing Vespas and always look to other motorcycles for inspiration , well I am inspired all right ! You must keep on with your vision , you are putting all the other bikes in the WORLD in your shadow , and I really hope you can make the bike not just competitive , but make it a winner .
I wish you and your team the very best and hope that you never stop creating and in years to come yor name will as important to electric bikes as Mr Benz is to the petrol engine !
Right , I’m off to the garage to rip it all up and start again !
Never give up , and I don’t think you wil .
Good luck , Pascal l
He just loves what he does… To leave what he had already achieved with the internal combustion engine and returned with this digital thing… wow. Not to be inspired is a sin…
Michael.. the tag says “made in the USA”.. hey, I think its representing the world…
Good luck. See for you in Sepang…
Fantastic work, it’s great to find well written content from talented writers like yourself. Akrapovic Exhausts
