Testing, testing, testing

C1 Testing

Since its public unveiling at the USGP in July, the new MotoCzysz C1 has been undergoing intense testing and development work. Between testing and tuning on the engine dyno, and real world track tests, significant progress is being made.

Along side the MotoCzysz staff engineers, representatives from sponsor Magneti Marelli have flown in to add their expertise fine tuning the bikes electronic control systems at each test. For development work, the C1 is equipped with over 30 sensors that collect over 50 channels of vital data for the engineers to crunch. From the fly by wire throttle control to fuel injector pulse widths to the lateral suspension flex or the damping work of the shock absorbers, the engineers are able to see exactly what is happening when the bike is running. All of this data is used to hone in on settings to improve the performance of the C1.

“One of the main tasks of the ECU on the C1, as with other fuel-injected motorcycles, is to control the engine by pulsing the fuel injectors and by firing the spark plugs.  But on the C1, the tasks of the ECU don’t stop with engine control.  There are many other systems on the bike that are also controlled by the ECU, and in each of these cases, custom software was written to implement the proprietary MotoCzysz control strategies. Each strategy must be developed in a measured and deliberate manner sensors are calibrated, actuators are verified, the strategy’s concept is validated, the strategy’s parameters are tuned, required changes are identified, and if necessary, the strategy is modified and sent through the development cycle again”  explains David Sprinkle, MotoCzysz Electrical Engineer. “Bringing all these systems to life requires an enormous effort, but they are what will ultimately make the C1 one of the most advanced motorcycle in the world.

Without further ado, we put this montage of footage from testing in the Pacific Northwest together for your enjoyment-

I got the pleasure to meet Micheal at he 2006 USGP in Laguna Seca and talk for an hour or so. That man has a unique vision and it’s proven here in the videos. What a bad ass machine with unlimited potential. I can wait to see the C1 hitting the track against all of the best in the world. It’s going to be a beautiful thing. Keep up the amazing work guys…what I would do with a 100k to spend………

  10. Dale Veith says:

Wow!!!.Seeing but more importantly hearing the C1 in the video of testing literally sent chills up and down my spine. The anticipation of seeing them in production is such sweet agony.

Keep the teases coming guys. I’m loving it.

    heading their way.

  13. M.Gray says:

Got a one on one at Laguna with you guys… all I can say is wow! It’s about time for an American Contender… bring it on. I’d love to see you stay in the GP… 800cc? Restrictors… heard their making some concessions? There has to be a way… stick Nicky or Edwards on the thrown and?… Pole here we come…

    A true fan!

  14. William Aguillon says:

The C1 runs and sounds awesome!! It is distinctly a american animal. I would love to see a live test. It has to be seen in motion to truly appraciate it’s beauty.

    The dream becomes reality.

Looking forward to even more! Need a test rider? ;)

  16. J.Scott says:

Is a 2006 MotoGP wildcard race still a possibility? Look like Ilmor will be making a run in an upcomming MotoGP race, it would be awesome if you guys could swing it!

  17. Armen Manougian says:

Lets see where do I begin,
I remember coming out to Fontana for a track day and you guys were supposed to take a run on the track, you guys hyped it up pretty good and alls I saw was some dude riding around the parking lot. Number 2, your publicity campaign is not the greatest you guys are going around talking about motogp and that you were going to run in it! Really do you guys really think you are capable of doing so. Number 3 I can’t imagine paying the amount you request for a unproven over estimated motorcycle! If your going to make a motorcycle just make it already, then run it on the track, then you can talk all you want about the thing, then finally you can start talking about motogp! I honestly admire you trying to manufacture a motorcycle, I admire you for not making another crappy american twin, but please don’t over estimate your motorcycles capabilities!

    with Love

  18. Harley Galpin says:

An idea that goes so far beyond the standard sportbike, and yet sticks to the core of what a sportbike is. We need this bike not only to raise the bar, but to prove that the UJM (universal Japanese motorcycle) is no longer the standard.

  19. Blake says:

The bike sounds wonderful. Hope to see it on the track competing soon.

Good luck to the Moto Czysz team,

    Blake

I had the good fortune to meet these guys in an all-day full access tour at the HQ in Portland. The facility, the people, and most important – the leader are incredibly talented. I went into the visit simply excited to be there. I left a believer.

Nothing comes easy…especially a ground up motorcycle.

If you want to read what I saw and get a feel of their future then check it out here:

  22. Isaac says:

Wow, I swear that bike get sexier every time I see it! I wish I was rich and could afford the 100G price tag on the replica. Hey can you guys hold a raffle say 100 bucks a ticket for a chance to win a C1? I sure can’t wait to see that beautiful machine chew up the rice rockets (rider skill permitting) and spit them out on the track. Don’t get me wrong I like the JAP bikes but now we finally have an American made superbike to be proud of that is not a V-Twin cruiser. Honestly speaking I think the C1 is the best looking bike I have ever laid eyes on. I was trying to contact the higher up for some more detail photos of the bike so I could build a digital model of the bike and just sit back and and admire it all day, LOL. Thank you Micheal and thank you as well Motoczysz staff for building this bike. I will follow it closley online, paper and my heart.

  23. I’m very proud to be a local resident who supports your team. Good work, everyone is impressed with results to date. Please keep us posted on every opportunity to see the C1 in action, testing or not.

  27. Russell Kirby says:

    Gentlemen,

My hat is off to you for your many accomplishments and original ideas. The bike sounds great! I have noticed in my studies about ceramics for internal engine parts, lots of time used with negligable wear (i.e. lifters in an Indy car ran for 3 years with no detictable wear). If you could figure out how to sell a detund street version, about the price of a BMW, you would develop an American following that is beyond compare. Just let me know how much a dealership would cost and I would be the first in line to buy one. Make the name simple Moto C1 for the 1000 and Moto C2 for the 600. You could very well put the Japanese out of business in America! I wish you all the best and congratulation for your work and ideas. There are probably a lot of Honda engineers out of work after yesterdays 600 race but I’m probably not telling you anything you already don’t know.

    Very Respectfully,
    Russ Kirby
